Why Work at Camp Middlesex?
Camp Middlesex is a great place to live, learn, and grow! We are currently looking for active role models to fill a variety of positions for our campers! Our staff are from all places in the United States and the world! Most are at least 18 years of age, except for our Junior Counselors that are 17 and have completed at least one summer as a CIT.
Our camp runs from the first week of July until the third week of August. Counselors are expected to work with campers for at least 6 out of the 7 weeks. There is also a 2-week orientation in late June and a clean-up weekend after camp ends in August.
A Typical Day
What does the day look like?
At Camp Middlesex, each staff member is a cabin counselor and a specialist. In the morning, you will be working in your program area. During the down times, you will be working in a cabin of 8-10 campers with another counselor. All counselors and staff receive at least 2 hours off per day. Staff also receive 2 nights off per week (after dinner until curfew at 11:30), as well as working 1 weekend during the summer.
We look after our staff to make sure that they are receiving the proper training, time off, and experience that they expect from camp! By the end of the summer, the staff always comment that the experience was amazing, and can’t wait to return!
Each staff member is given at least 2 periods off a day, as well as one – two nights off per week. Staff members are only required to work one weekend during the summer, so they are free to visit the outlaying community on the weekend. Boston is a popular spot to visit as well as Cape Cod. The camp also has a van that it uses for staff trips throughout the summer!
Meals & Lodging
Camp Middlesex’s bunk capacity ranges from 8 to 14 beds in each cabin, providing a total of 100 beds. The cabins are equipped with lights, electricity, bunks and mattresses. Centralized bathhouses with toilets and hot showers are located nearby. Visitors bring their own bedding. Each counselor sleeps in a cabin with 8-10 campers and another counselor.
Officially completed in 2006, Alumni Lodge houses the staff lounge area, laundry facilities, staff bathrooms, and administrative offices. The staff lounge offers a place away from camp to enjoy some rest and relaxation on your time off. In the staff lounge you can check your e-mail (on the staff computer or on a laptop with wireless access), watch a DVD, play a video game, or just have a nap. We also offer laundry facilities to our staff with 2 washers and dryers available, with no charge. We even provide the laundry detergent!
We employ a food service director every summer to provide home cooked meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is a full service salad bar available for lunch and dinner. Our food service director can also meet with staff to discuss unique dietary needs.
Salaries range from $1,800 to $2,600 for counselors, $2,700 – $3,150 for support staff, and $3,600-$4,200 for unit directors. Bonuses for great performance are offered to counselors and support staff of up to $500 at the conclusion of the summer.
At Camp Middlesex we will certify you in life guarding courses, boating courses, or other instructor courses depending on what certifications you need for your area.
