History with 4-H

Dear Camp Community:

We are busy gearing up for another summer and look forward to seeing everyone once the summer rolls around. With the preparations underway, we wanted to let you know about a change to our programming this summer. As of January 1st, 2024, the University of Massachusetts will not be renewing the Memorandums of Agreement with each of the 4-H camps in Massachusetts. The university states that due to a lack of funding, it does not have the resources to support the camps, as needed for the camps to remain affiliated with the 4-H program. Thus, Camp Middlesex, along with the four other Massachusetts 4-H camps, will no longer be affiliated with 4-H.

Over 82 years ago, Camp Middlesex was established to provide a camp experience for 4-H youth. Camp has since evolved to offer life-changing experiences that provide opportunities for all youth to gain life skills. Camp Middlesex has not received federal, state or county funding and has always been fiscally independent.

Camp Middlesex is, and has always been, a private, independent, non-profit organization with a long tradition of providing a traditional summer camp experience to youth and young adults each summer. Despite the change, we assure all our families that our mission, ideals, and most of our traditions will remain unchanged this upcoming summer. We continue to be committed to providing a safe, fun, and educational environment for all campers and will continue delivering a high-quality camp experience.

While there will be some minor changes, we look forward to creating some new traditions as we move forward in this new chapter of our camp history. Let’s bring on the Summer of 2024!
